COMMUNICATIONS STUDIES
THE DISCIPLINE:
The Communications Studies sequence is designed for the student who plans to pursue advanced academic degrees and/or employment in fields requiring an understanding of the centrality of communications media to societies, individuals, families, businesses, and professions. The program emphasizes mentored learning and research. It fosters analytical thinking and a scholarly approach to real questions and issues through a focus on academic literature, theory, and research. It prepares students to make a positive and informed contribution to society.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
This emphasis provides excellent preparation for graduate studies, and also for a broad range of careers. Students have entered graduate programs in fields such as communications, law, MBA, MPA, medicine, and education. They also have entered careers in fields such as media research, marketing, sales, business analysis, nonprofits, government, and military service.
