Upcoming Islamic Art Exhibit                                                                                                Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic  Culture                    February 24, 2012 - September 29, 2012

As the premier art museum in the Mountain West and most attended university art museum in North America, the Brigham Young University Museum of Art (MOA) in Provo, Utah, is the organizing institution for the upcoming exhibition Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture. Renowned Islamic art scholar Dr. Sabiha Al Khemir is serving as Project Director of the exhibition that will feature more than 250 works of art from more than 40 lenders in ten countries and will travel throughout the United States. The exhibition will be on display in the galleries on the main level of the museum.

Please join us for the interdisciplinary symposium, Transactions: Transnationalism and the Formation of American Culture which will be held at the BYU Museum of Art  in conjunction with the exhibition The Weir Family, 1820–1920: Expanding the Traditions of American Art that will open on November 18, 2011. The symposium will showcase current scholarship investigating the important role that cross currents of cultural influence played in shaping transatlantic art sensibilities during the long nineteenth century (1780 –1920). The Weir Family, 1820-1920: Expanding the Traditions of American Art                        November 18, 2011 - May 19, 2012

The Weir Family, 1820-1920: Expanding the Traditions of American Art, organized by Brigham Young University Museum of Art, will be the first major exhibition to collectively examine paintings by Robert Walter Weir (1830-1889), John Ferguson Weir (1841-1926), and Julian Alden Weir (1851-1919).  It will showcase important pieces from museum and private collections across the country, many of which have never been seen together.  The exhibition will explore how the transatlantic encounters of the Weir family of artists helped to shape American art for nearly a century.  MORE

Second Saturdays                                                                                                            Family Art Workshops

Every second Saturday of the month families can take a guided tour of a current exhibition and create a fun, hands-on art activity free-of-charge.  Programming is appropriate for children ages 4-9 yrs.

Wide-Open Spaces: Capturing the Grandeur of the American Southwest explores the artistic innovations in color, composition and technique developed by these artists to capture the grandeur of the region.
